Dres (Black Sheep) Exclusive Interview

WHO'S THE BLACK SHEEP?

iFLOW Web Magazine's DJ Big Cal and Jewelz ran into Dres in New York City at the Connex 20th issue Release Event

Black Sheep is definitely in the building.  Remembered as a member of the clan Native Tongue, Black Sheep is responsible for songs like the late 1994’s ‘The Choice Is Yours, “ which became the theme song for JC Penny. Web Magazine's DJ Big Cal and Jewelz ran into Dres in New York City at the  Connex Lists 20th Edition Release Party on March 16, 2006.  where he gave an outstanding performance.  Black Sheep’s fans still love them.  This is the beginning of hip hop in the remaking as they prepare to release their new project.

When Dres began to say, "Engine engine number 9; on the New York Transit Line. If your train runs off the track....PICK IT UP ~ PICK IT UP ~ PICK IT UP!"  (uhhhh caw)  had the whole club going wild.

Check out the email conversation iFLOW had with Dres:

iFLOW: A fan stated on SOHH.com that he saw you in McDonalds one day and  began to converse with you. What reaction have you guys been getting from your supporters during your musical hiatus?

DRES: we've been getting overwhelming support and love... it's almost as though people feel like we would make such a difference in the world with the release of new music... I’d like to believe them

iFLOW: I can attest that you still got it MAN......What can we expect from  your new album project?

DRES: Well, we really took our time with this project... i think people will be very happy with our effort.. lyrically and musically the project is very sound... it's full of statements that need to be heard as well as some of the fun that people know us for

iFLOW:  Is Black Sheep touring right now?

DRES: Yup... we're doing a lot of shows right now... and several tours are being set up for the summer; of which I hope the Native Tongue tour happens

iFLOW:  How did the theme song with JC Penny come about for your song "The  choice is yours?"

DRES:  That was a combination of the good people at a very respected ad agency called Grey and the good people at Universal Publishing

iFLOW: Do you find hip hop to be more competitive now than it was when you  guys first it the set in the 90's? Please comment.

DRES: Well, there’s definitely a whole lot more m.c.'s and producers.. and groups... very crowded these days... from that aspect the line is longer... but creatively... naaaa... I don't really feel like it's more competitive... these days cats get a deal sounding like what's out... in the 90's you got a deal for sounding like no one else

iFLOW: You and Mr. Lawnge are reunited am I correct? Are you both living in
New York?

DRES: Yes... Lawnge and I are def reunited... I’m in New York and he is in Miami (Florida)

iFLOW:  Please state anything that you want iFLOW readers to know that you have not been asked above.

DRES:  The name of the new album is 8wm/novakane. And the first single being leaked out right now is called "Who Dat?" really want to say thanks to everyone that have shown us love over the years... it's a great feeling to know that people over the years have respected our musical efforts... I’d really like to tell everyone to get at us... we're very approachable and would like for our people to get at us... you can hear some of the new album as well as purchase a t shirt or sampler or just drop us a line.
